Notice to Special Education Students of Sweetwater County School District #2

The records retention procedure of the Special Services Department of Sweetwater County School District #2 and the State of Wyoming Archives requires certain records related to special education services to be retained until the student reaches age twenty-one (21) (U.S.C.F.R 300.573). If you were born between January 1, 1993 and December 31, 1993, attended schools in Sweetwater County School District #2 and received special education services including: speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, resource assistance, counseling¸ or any other special needs program. You may receive the official file subject to destruction by August of 2016.

If possible, please call in advance to make sure you can access the building and/or make sure we are available.

Persons requesting special education records must be prepared to provide appropriate proof of identity (Example: picture id, driver’s license, or passport). Special education records will be released only to the person of interest. Unclaimed records will be destroyed on or after August 15, 2015.

This notice does not pertain to Student Cumulative Files containing information about regular education services; such as¸ student information¸ grades and/or graduation. The Student Cumulative Files are maintained by the District for ten years, then sent to the State of Wyoming Archives.
