Sweetwater County School District #2 will soon begin some of its Summer projects as an attempt to make certain they are on track for a fall reopening. One of the major projects that is scheduled for the summer months in the remodel of the upstairs floor in Lincoln Middle School. This phase of the construction will give the top floor a face lift that resembles the remodel of the lower level completed the previous summer. Large projects that need to be completed in the summer months have a tendency to create panic as school is about. to begin. The district is hoping that a couple more weeks will allow the project ample time for completion.
Additional projects scheduled for the summer are the replacement of bleachers in the gymnasiums at GRHS as well as Truman Elementary School. These projects are expected to begin in June. Additionally the bleachers in the upper north gym at Lincoln are being replaced by a remodeled fitness area giving LMS additional classroom space for STEM offerings in the current fitness room.
The removal of the bleachers has begun. Both sets of bleachers being removed have been in place for decades. As parts are dismantled and removed, they will be temporarily available to the public free to the taking behind Lincoln Middle School before being hauled away and disposed of. The old wood slats from the bleachers are available on April 28th and will be hauled away by Friday May 1. Metal will be delivered to Pacific Steel.
As work begins, the district continues to work closely with the county health department as well as local industry to implement precautions during construction projects.
