Event: David Tyree (DEA Agent) Presentation on fentanyl / recreational drugs
Parent / Guardian,
As students are getting settled into the new school year, we would like to take this opportunity to remind kids and young adults about the dangers of fentanyl and other recreational drugs. The United States Attorney’s Office is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation to bring awareness and share resources regarding deadly fentanyl flooding the U.S. and how Wyoming communities can work together to help prevent overdose deaths.
DEA officials warn that criminal drug networks in Mexico are mass-producing deadly fentanyl and fentanyl-laced fake prescription pills, using chemicals sourced largely from China. These fake prescription pills are designed to appear nearly identical to legitimate prescriptions—such as Oxycontin®, Percocet®, Vicodin®, Adderall®, Xanax® and other medicines—and have been found in every state in the country.
While schools play a vital role in the prevention of drug and alcohol use among adolescents, the process of increasing the awareness of the risks associated with fentanyl-laced pills will require intensive community involvement. We would like to offer subject matter experts to speak at your school and community to discuss these alarming trends and heighten awareness of the dangers of fentanyl and other drugs.
Agent Tyree will speak about the harm and potential problems associated with fentanyl and “recreational drugs” and he shares his story growing up in an addicted home and then working for the DEA all over the world. He will spend as much time as possible discussing the “why” behind kids use of drugs and healthy alternatives.
Sincerely,
Craig Barringer
