Top 5 Strategies for Motivating Challenging Students 

Got Motivation? This session will cover the top 5 ways to motivate students.  Specific strategies will focus on improving on-task behavior, work completion and following directions.  

Responding to Challenging Behavior in the Classroom Setting  

Consistency is the key!  In this session, vital components for consistently addressing challenging behavior will be identified.  Participants will become fluent with implementing a variety of effective strategies for responding to challenging behavior and redirecting the student back to task.

 Tuesday, August 1st and Wednesday, August 2nd – Paraprofessionals: Tools for YOUR Toolbox – Black Hills Special Services Cooperative

Over two days, Black Hills Special Services Cooperative (BHSSC) will break down seven tools designed to support the many duties you are faced with:

·         Understanding Disabilities

·         Roles & Responsibilities

·         Collaborating with Teachers

·         Academic Instruction,

·         Accommodations and Modifications

·         Empowering Students to Be Independent

·         Managing Behaviors

This content is intended to be adapted to any grade level and may be used with all students, in both general education and special education settings.

Paraprofessionals: Supporting Our Students

The WDE Special Education Division will be hosting a free series of trainings intended to better equip paraprofessionals for their numerous duties. A few of the topics to be covered include: the basics of special education, collaborative strategies, and behavior. 

These live online sessions will be held at 3:30-5:00PM every third Wednesday of the month beginning August 16, with the fifth and final session December 20. 

Registration needs to be completed by August 14. 

The training dates are:

August 16

September 20

October 18

November 15

December 20 

For those who are certified PTSB/Stars credit will be offered upon completion of the course in its entirety.
