Dear Sweetwater County School District #2 Families and Green River Community,

I hope this letter finds you enjoying a restful, rejuvenating summer with your loved ones. As we look toward the start of a brand-new school year, I want to extend a warm welcome to all of our returning families, new residents, and valued community partners.

Reflecting on the past year in Green River, I am filled with overwhelming gratitude for the privilege of serving this community. Over the last year, I have had the absolute joy of watching our students grow, our teachers innovate, and our support staff keep the heart of this district beating day in and day out.

Sweetwater #2 is truly a special place, not because of any single individual, program, or building, but because of our people.

It is seen in our educators who spend countless hours designing meaningful lessons and finding new ways to reach every single child. It is felt in our paraprofessionals, custodians, bus drivers, food service teams, secretaries, technology specialists, central staff, SROs, and maintenance staff who create safe, welcoming spaces where our kids feel valued and supported. It is proven every day by our students, whose curiosity, resilience, talents, and spirit remind us exactly why we do this work. And it is sustained by a Green River community whose unwavering pride and support for our schools is second to none.

While our budgeting work over the last several months presented very real challenges due to the recalibration of the state’s school funding model combined with declining enrollment, we navigated them together and emerged stronger where it matters most: right inside our classrooms. By staying focused on our core mission and leveraging new instructional funding streams, we were able to expand our instructional supports, adding Instructional Facilitators at the secondary level and key teaching positions to directly support our educators and students.

At the same time, our commitment to district vision, instructional excellence, and experiential learning continues to move forward in exciting ways:

  • WDE Accreditation Peer Review Success: Last fall, our district successfully completed its 5-Year State Review with flying colors, a testament to the hard work of our staff. Sweetwater #2 was ranked as one of the best school districts in the entire state of Wyoming!

  • Revised Strategic Plan: Our updated Strategic Plan has been formally revised and approved for the upcoming school year. Strategic Plan posters will soon be displayed alongside our academic calendars in all of our various school buildings, and online. Our Strategic Plan goals serve as the unifying glue that binds our individual school and professional goals together, focusing our collective efforts on driving success for every student.

  • Curriculum & Instructional Framework: Building on last year’s successful implementation of our new K–8 curriculum, we are excited to roll out new instructional resources at the high school level this fall. Furthermore, we are embarking on important work as a district to update our overall instructional framework and model of instruction, our first comprehensive update to this foundation since 2017.

  • Work-Based Learning & GRIP: Through our expanding GRIP (Graduate Ready for Industry and Purpose) program, we have increased Work-Based Learning opportunities, connecting local industry partners directly with our juniors and seniors for real-world work experience before graduation.

  • Ag/FFA River Site Facilities: Down by the river, we have successfully added new barn and stable structures to our Agriculture/FFA site, allowing high school students to house their livestock locally. In the near future, our elementary students will also benefit through hands-on field trips to learn about agriculture and interact with the animals.

  • Expedition Academy Greenhouse: Expedition Academy High School is expanding its learning footprint this fall with the addition of a new greenhouse, opening up rich, hands-on science and agricultural learning opportunities.

  • Thoman Ranch School Reopening: We also celebrated a historic milestone for our rural community by successfully reopening the Thoman Ranch School in January 2026, after nearly three years of dormancy.

All of these achievements are a direct reflection of our shared determination to give every student in Green River the tools, opportunities, and confidence they need to succeed.

Our school district is only as strong as the community that surrounds it, and Green River’s support for our children is truly unmatched. Whether you are a parent, a local business partner, or a community member cheering on our students in academics, fine arts, and/or athletics, thank you for your investment in the next generation.

We look forward to welcoming our students back into the classrooms when school starts on Wednesday, August 19th. Thank you for your continued partnership, and let’s make this upcoming school year our best one yet!

With deep appreciation and respect,

Scott
