Curriculum and Instruction
Sweetwater County School District #2’s Curriculum and Instruction Department is designed to provide all students with a rigorous and relevant curriculum to ensure we are preparing them for success in our rapidly changing world.
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction plays a pivotal role in shaping the educational experiences and outcomes of students in Sweetwater County School District #2. Its primary focus is on designing, implementing, and monitoring curriculum and instructional practices to ensure high-quality education across all grade levels.
In collaboration with building and district administrators, instructional facilitators, certified teachers and staff members, support staff, parents, students, and other community stakeholders, our mission is to provide an exemplary program of instruction for students that contributes to the development of the “whole child.”
Our department is responsible for the following:
Curriculum Development: The department is responsible for developing and revising the district's curriculum frameworks, which outline the scope and sequence of content and skills to be taught at each grade level. This involves aligning curriculum with state priority standards, educational best practices, and the district's educational goals.
Instructional Design: The department collaborates with educators to design instructional materials, resources, and strategies that support effective teaching and learning. This includes developing instructional cycles and assessments that align with the curriculum standards and objectives.
Professional Development: The department organizes and facilitates professional development opportunities for teachers and staff. These sessions provide educators with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively implement various curriculum and instructional strategies.
Data Analysis: The department gathers and analyzes student performance data from assessments and standardized tests. This data helps educators identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement in curriculum and instruction. Data analysis informs decision-making to enhance teaching practices and student learning outcomes.
Elementary Instructional Coaching: Elementary instructional coaches provide one-on-one or small-group support to teachers. They offer feedback, model effective teaching practices, and provide guidance on incorporating innovative instructional strategies into the classroom.
Technology Integration: The department works with the technology department to explore and recommend the integration of educational technology tools and resources that enhance teaching and learning. This includes recommending software, apps, online platforms, and interactive resources that align with the curriculum.
Responsive Instruction: The department supports educators in implementing strategies and programs which respond to student learning and promotes inclusive practices that cater to the individual needs of all students. Efforts are made to differentiate instruction for diverse learners, including students with special needs and English language learners.
Assessment and Evaluation: The department designs and administers formative and summative assessments to measure student progress and mastery of learning objectives. This includes designing valid and reliable assessments that provide valuable insights into student learning.
